What is Ortodermina Lidocaine 5% Anesthetic Ointment 50 g

Ortodermina Ointment is an anesthetic for accessible mucous membranes of the oropharyngeal cavity and for ano-rectal itching. It is indicated for the treatment of skin lesions.

Active Ingredients

100 g of cream contains 6.15 g of lidocaine hydrochloride, equivalent to 5 g of lidocaine base.

Excipients

Cetostearyl alcohol, macrogol cetostearyl ether, mineral oil, white soft paraffin, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, purified water.

Contraindications and Side Effects

Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to any of the excipients.

Dosage

Apply the cream to the affected area as appropriate; if the skin shows lacerations, it is recommended to spread the cream using a sterile gauze pad. In dentistry, for anesthesia of the oral mucosa, dry the latter with a cotton swab and a saliva ejector to minimize dilution of the cream and promote maximum absorption of lidocaine. When adjusting a new denture, spread the cream on the surface in contact with the mucosa (Important: the adjustment period). Daily application should not exceed 35 g of cream.

Warnings

Use with caution in subjects presenting particularly traumatized mucosa and sepsis in the region intended for application of the cream. In any case, the safety of use depends on the dosage, proper application technique, and the adoption of precautionary measures. The product should be used at the lowest effective dose, appropriately reducing the dose in relation to age and physical condition in children, the elderly, and acutely ill patients.

Undesirable effects

Use of lidocaine can cause local and general allergic reactions, up to and including anaphylactoid manifestations. The appearance of systemic signs is rare and is due to excessive dosage, rapid absorption, hypersensitivity, or reduced tolerance. In these cases, cardiovascular depression and nervous excitation followed by sedation with drowsiness or loss of consciousness may occur. In such cases, it is necessary to adopt appropriate emergency measures. Report a suspected adverse reaction via the national reporting system.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

In pregnant women and in early infancy, the product should be used only in cases of actual need and under the direct supervision of a doctor.
